Decline of the West

by The City Streets

/
1.
What have we been up to are we getting anywhere Staying up three days and nights wild-eyed and desperate for A basic human connection put aside understanding We are yelling at each other sometimes Earlier I was crying Our friends all came and went dropping off supplies Underlining relevant passages Ice cream and mescaline I get to choose my brothers, I get to choose This isn’t hedonism I wouldn’t call this fun It’s absolute I found you in the kitchen legs akimbo screaming, "damn you cosmos"
2.
City River 01:48
It’s lonely in sunshine Dirt-faced I’m in my cups Chicken scratch get me pills Drive past the light pollution I’m in a state now Headlights are burnt out Too skinny I know how Runny nose sad girl smile In trunks of drunk drivers Creep down the creaky hallway Your parents weren’t angry No, just disappointed It’s getting early Dew soft and goosebumps We rule the pre-dawn City river, take us home
3.
And all that hasn’t happened yet will, it will We’re 20 floors up it’s no fire drill Keep passing all the open windows We can’t escape this way it’s certain death I guess what the hell did we expect? Our lives so many unfinished cigarettes, still burning It’s not our fault there’s just no ashtrays anywhere In the age of hypocrites the moralists are on a tear They’re sucking up the beauty and blowing back stale air They can fuck the whole world up, the kids just won’t go there.
